Personal income tax (PIT)

Residence (Local & Expat). Non-resident individuals are taxed on their Tajikistan-source income. Taxation is primarily administered through withholding; however, in certain limited instances, non-resident individuals are required to make a self-assessment. Under certain conditions or where provisions of a double tax treaty (DTT) are available, non-resident individuals may be exempt from taxation in Tajikistan.

  • Employment income of non-residents is taxable at 25% flat rate

Social security contributions. Individuals are required to pay social tax, which is 1% of the salary. The employer is obligated to withhold and make social tax payments assessed on the same tax base.

Payroll Cycle in Tajikistan

The remuneration payment timeline shall be determined in the labor contract, collective agreements and contracts and other internal (local) regulatory documents, but it cannot be less than one time in every two weeks.

Non-payroll taxes in Tajikistan

Value-added tax (VAT)

VAT is generally assessed on taxable turnover, which includes goods and services.

Generally, the Tax Code exempts the following from VAT: goods and services that are not provided in Tajikistan under the place of supply rules; sale, transfer, or rent of real property; financial services; certain medical services; and certain other goods and services.

Services are generally considered to be provided at the place of business of the service provider or the actual place where services are rendered. However, certain types of services are considered to be provided at the location of the buyer. Such services include legal, marketing, consulting, accounting, engineering, audit, data processing, etc.

A VAT refund is generally available for qualified exporters if input VAT exceeds assessed VAT.
